#61 ANNA ASHBY - AUTHOR OF RESTORATIVE YOGA' POWER PRESENCE AND PRACTICE FOR TEACHERS & TRAINEES

Anna Ashby (@ashby_anna) has been studying and practicing yoga for over 30 years and has been teaching since 1999. An experienced teacher, she holds the highest level of certification by the Yoga Alliance Professionals - Senior Yoga Teacher (SYT) and Yoga Alliance (US) E-RYT-500. She also holds a B.A. (hons) in Modern Dance which she gained from Mills College in California in 1991.

Anna’s teaching style has evolved over the years from her study of dance, in-depth training with established, classical yoga systems that focus on alignment, and a dedicated meditation practice that developed while she lived for 12 years in a yoga ashram in upstate New York.

Her style reflects precise instruction that combines healthy alignment and intelligent sequencing with an appreciation for flowing artful movement. Her approach is methodical and accessible and incorporates the teachings of yoga in a way that is practical and makes sense in modern context. Classes and retreats are focused on learning and the environment is open and friendly.

She also specialises in teaching restorative yoga, a style of yoga that is passive, introspective and breath oriented where the body is supported on bolsters and blankets and still for longer periods of time than in an active class. The purpose of this type of practice is to shift the nervous system out of ‘fight or flight’ into a deeply felt relaxation response.

Anna teaches at triyoga in London and is one of London’s leading yoga teachers. She is a founder and senior faculty member of the triyoga™ teacher training programme, one of the most comprehensive and rigorous training programmes in Europe. Anna regularly leads retreats, workshops and trainings in the UK and Europe.

Her book, Restorative Yoga: Power Presence Practice for Teachers and Trainees was released March 2022.
